Sony is planning to form an alliance, the IP Life Consortium, with 10 companies including Cisco and Germany-based wireless player Rohde & Schwarz (R&S) to boost IP-based Ultra HD video broadcasts, allowing TV stations worldwide to set up Ultra HD infrastructure with lower costs, according to industry sources.
Sony will lead the alliance with its technologies, including hardware such as cameras and compression software. IP Life Consortium will specify standards for related equipment, and offer equipment as early as Sony's fiscal 2015 (April 2015-March 2016).
