最近一段時間 Apple Pay 算是賺足了大家的目光，自發佈之日起就一直沒有淡出過人們的關注，Apple Pay 的出現也炒熱了 NFC 支付方式，甚至連 Google Wallet 都借著這個潮流，使用者大增。
據 Ars Technica 從知情人士那裡獲得的消息，Google 2011 年發佈的 Google Wallet 在過去三年一直發展得不慍不火，然而最近幾個月突然迎來大增長，其每週交易額提升了 50%，用戶數量也比之前增加了將近一倍。
Google Wallet 過去幾年一直表現平平，而最近的突然增長剛好處於 Apple Pay 推出的這段日子，因此很容易聯想到其與 Apple Pay 的受關注有很大的關係。
據蘋果 CEO 稱，Apple Pay 10 月 20 日發佈時，僅過了三天就已有 100 多萬張信用卡在 Apple Pay 上啟用，如今 Apple Pay 也已獲得美國最大信用卡聯盟以及美國各大型銀行的支持。雖然目前還不確定 Apple Pay 是否會最終取代現有支付方式，但其對支付領域的衝擊是顯而易見的。
儘管 Google Wallet 與 Apple Pay 出自不同公司，操作平台也完全不一樣，但由於二者均為基於 NFC 原理的支付方式，一般使用者在使用時感受到的差異非常小。因此 Apple Pay 的火熱也就讓人想起了三年前就已採用 NFC 支付的 Google Wallet。
Gigaom 將這種現象比喻為水漲船高，隨著 NFC 的「回歸」，加上蘋果對 Apple Pay 的大力推廣，使用者開始逐漸接受這種「非接觸式」支付方式，如此看來，同樣採用 NFC 支付原理的 Google Wallet 在這段時間自然也就同樣備受關注。
此外， Gigaom 還發現蘋果在 Apple Pay 的推廣上比 Google 對 Google Wallet 的推廣要賣力得多，蘋果官方網站上 iPhone 6 的頁面專門展示了 Apple Pay 的功能；而 Google 的 Nexus 6 和 Nexus 5 的官方介紹卻隻字未提 Google Wallet 或 NFC 支付。
不過，目前 Apple Pay 和 Google Wallet 的推廣也都各自面臨阻礙。美國零售商組織 Merchant Customer Exchange （簡稱 MCX）推出 CurrentC，打算聯合「抵制」Apple Pay ；至於 Google Wallet，為了繼續支援 Softcard 電子錢包服務，部分店家也都還不打算使用 Google Wallet 。
