這次EOS M2最大的亮點在於對焦能力的躍升，Canon研發了新一代混合式CMOS自動對焦系統（Hybrid CMOS AF II System），擴大相位差對焦模式與對比式對焦結合作用的自動對焦範圍至感光元件的80%，使EOS M2的對焦速度在前代的基礎上提升了2.3倍，更增加自動對焦的準確性，對於光線較暗時的對焦能力亦有所加強。此外，EOS M2一樣擁有31點自動對焦點，並支援單點對焦、臉部追蹤對焦、多點對焦的功能。
EOS M2的新增了料理、兒童、夜間人像拍攝模式，讓新手玩家能更加容易地選用多元場景拍攝出理想的畫面，並可在相機上實現照片裁切的功能，裁切完成後的圖檔將以另存新檔的方式記錄在記憶媒體中。 在動態錄影的部分，EOS M2在1920×1080影片格式之下，可實現3-10倍的數位變焦，且在變焦時自動追蹤對焦也能同時作用。不過由於手持攝影容易晃到，建議使用配合腳架使用才能將這功能發揮到最佳狀態。內置新型立體收音麥克風，可採取自動或手動兩種錄音模式，提供高品質的收音效果，即便搭配STM鏡頭，在鏡頭驅動時的聲音也不容易收錄進去。

Canon EOS M2單鏡組將搭配EF-M 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM變焦鏡頭，雙鏡組搭配EF-M 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM變焦鏡及EF-M 22mm F2 STM定焦鏡，預計在12月中旬在日本上市，具體售價尚未公布。

Canon 旗下的第二台微單眼相機EOS M2終於出場了，一樣搭載1800萬畫素 APS-C 尺寸 背照式 感光元件和 DIGIC 5 影像處理器，採用最新一代 Hybrid CMOS AF II 自動對焦 系統，在前代的基礎上大大提升了自動對焦的能力，不僅對焦速度更快更準確，且機身尺寸也有所輕小化，搭配預計在本月（12月）中旬於日本上市。
