立冬當天，到傳統市場買菜，市場空蕩蕩的，從賣魚的，到賣菜的，從攤販到客人，全都唉聲嘆氣，毫無補冬的喜悅。
 
蹲坐在地上刮魚鱗的魚販說，大家好像沒什麼心情補冬，可能是平常都吃太好了，但是拖著菜籃來買菜的阿嬤則說，補了半天，萬一補到毒，怎麼辦？
 
繞了半個菜市場，也許是天氣太熱，熟食攤的麻油雞飯和羊肉爐乏人問津，只有豬肉攤的肥肉搶購一空，老闆娘說，要買回去做豬油，要提早預定。
 
賣菜的阿嬸皺著眉頭說，「台灣人，怎麼變成這樣子？有錢的老闆，怎麼這麼壞心……」
 
阿嬸繼續發牢騷，說以前台灣好像不是這個樣子，大家不會亂來，做生意的不會這麼沒有良心。我問阿嬸，是多久以前？她說，大概是蔣經國的那個時候啊……
 
相較於行政院長家裡只吃進口油品，某上任官員說他家十幾年不碰油鹽，可是靠傳統菜市場和大賣場或超市採購，藉以餵飽家人的市井小民，能夠倚賴的到底是什麼？除了相信政府，盡量買有國家認證的，盡量挑那種貨架前面貼了很多白色A4檢驗報告的商品之外，好像也無能為力了。就連醫生或毒物專家都只能規勸大家不要長久倚賴同一品牌，因為誰都不曉得，什麼時候輪到自己家裡架上的柴米油鹽要出包，沒辦法百分之百躲得過，只好退一步，祈禱吞入體內的毒素不要太集中，這樣說來，也很哀愁啊！
 
立冬的下午，又來到社區超市，站在油品貨架前方，身旁一對白髮夫妻，瞇著老花眼，不曉得應該挑什麼油。老先生問店員，這些油有沒有問題？店員說，有問題的都下架了。老太太又問，所以留在這裡的沒問題吧？店員苦笑說，目前沒問題。
 
對於食品的不信任，變成人民集體的恐懼，到底誰該負責？倘若把出事的責任都推給某豪宅的風水，其實也很荒誕，若是昧著良心賺黑心錢的有錢企業家都沒被揭露出來，難道就叫做風水好嗎？
 
像我這樣，還有辦法上網閱讀一些食品安全的知識，有辦法透過信任的機構跟小農採買有機米，知道哪家的豆腐豆干醬油採用非基因改造黃豆做原料，知道去哪裡買沒有落葉劑的紅豆，甚至有時間可以自己磨五穀豆漿，用自己信任的材料做麵包，但是許多為了生活奔波的上班族，和那些父母都在工廠工作的小孩們，除了外食，沒有選擇。而一向倚賴政府認證的家庭主婦或主夫們，即使親自下廚，還是免不了那種恐懼，不曉得什麼時候，會被自己挑選的東西背叛。就好像那些一票一票選出來的人，拉票時說什麼一張票一世情，當選之後則說辦不到要不然你要怎樣。
 
因此，當賣菜阿嬸問我「台灣人怎麼變成這樣」，剎那間，我真的不知道如何回答。
 
我很想告訴阿嬸，某些地方，我們變好了，譬如一般人願意挺身而出，為不相識的弱勢團體發聲，也開始注意到核廢料與台灣永續發展的環保問題，但某些地方，我們確實墮落了。會不會我們在追求所謂的進步或國際化的過程中，把一些美好的本質捨棄了，於是那些所謂的食品大廠為了掙得幾％之間的獲利，也只是將台灣的人性良善拿去犧牲典當而已，如果是那樣的進步與國際化，我們寧可不要啊！
