聯發科發表世界首款 Cortex-A72平板處理器MT8173，支援硬解4K影片

 雖然平板出貨量只佔行動裝置的小部分市場，但是聯發科在平板領域正在積極搶攻。ARM在今年2月，才發表了全新的 Cortex-A72架構，而聯發科也在今年的MWC2015會場上，搶先發表了世界首款 Cortex-A72架構的晶片MT8173。
MT8173 採用了big.LITTLE架構，不過與其他同架構晶片有所不同。MT8173搭載2顆Cortex-A72 及2顆Cortex-A53 處理器，採用聯發科CorePilot多核心處理器技術，可以同時間四核同時運行，最高可達2.4GHz的運算能力。並配備有PowerVR GX6250 GPU，支援OpenGL ES 3.1和OpenCL異質架構運算。
透過這樣的設計，MT8173的性能達到了MT8125（1.2GHz、Cortex-A7）的六倍，還為4K影片的內容專門設計，並支援硬解4K 30fps的功能。此外，更支援一般影片120Hz動態影像顯示的能力，降低了影像的殘影現象。
而在GFXbench網站上，也出現了搭載了MT8173的這款產品官方工程機的測試報告，而MT8173 在 GFXbench 1080P環境之下的多項測試中，均有不錯的表現，1080P T-REX Offscreen 的測試甚至跑出了平均 26fps 的成績，影片播放的功能的確令人期待。
