紐約的新創公司 Genepeeks 將於12月開始營運，該公司將推出一個極為新穎的服務：他們將會透過檢查基因序列，找出小孩可能會有的先天性疾病並藉此篩檢出健康的精子。雖然許多人質疑類似的服務將會有人道倫理上的疑慮，但 Genepeeks 宣稱目前該服務只適用於透過精子捐贈受孕的女性。

該公司將透過電腦檢視精子捐贈者的 DNA，並模擬與受捐贈女性的 DNA 媒合後是否會有基因缺陷或先天性疾病的風險，有高風險的精子將會排除，並留下在電腦檢測過後的「安全 DNA」精子。

Genepeeks 的聯合創辦人 Anne Morris 說明：「目前這項服務只提供給即將接受精子捐贈的準媽媽，他們將會獲得一份經過媒合後的安全精子清單，避免小孩會因為高風險基因而造成問題。」

Anne Morris 因為本身的情況而開始進行相關研究，她自己的兒子也是經由精子捐贈而受孕，但卻發現她兒子天生就罹患一種被稱為「中鏈脂肪酸去氫酵素缺乏症（MCADD）」的遺傳性疾病，該疾病會讓小孩無法將食物中的脂肪轉換成能量，英國就有個小女孩罹患此病，導致她必須每天必須正常進食，如果少吃一餐就有可能有生命危險，如果不是早期診斷發現，大部分的患者都無法存活超過5歲，幸好她的孩子有早期診斷，目前小孩正健康快樂地生活著。

目前該公司與曼哈頓的精子銀行合作，協助他們篩檢精子，該公司將會利用分析技術，將精子與卵子可能的DNA排列組合作出10,000次（就像生了10,000個小孩），並尋找出各種可能的遺傳病基因可能性，並挑出已知的600種單基因疾病缺陷（單基因遺傳疾病包括血友病、白血病等遺傳基因缺陷，但該公司並未指明是哪600種單基因遺傳疾病），藉此過濾掉配對風險最高的精子。
