【大紀元2013年09月25日訊】（大紀元記者林哲華編譯報導）已故好萊塢電影製作人大衛．岡拉克（David Gundlach），留下價值約1.5億美元的遺產給他的故鄉－－印第安納州北部的埃爾克哈特鎮（Elkhart）。

《華爾街日報》報導，大衛．岡拉克出生在加州唐尼市（Downey），8歲時父親去世後隨母親搬到埃爾克哈特鎮和外公外婆住在一起。1995年他在倫敦創立自己的汽車保險公司Hastings Direct，率先利用人口統計數據評估風險。隨著公司快速成長，他想投入慈善事業及廣泛的商業及社交活動。

2006年他將該公司以2億6,000萬美元賣給澳洲保險集團。2007年春天，岡拉克在倫敦工作十多年後回到美國，在馬里布買下一棟2,000萬美元的豪宅，也在比佛利山購買一棟房屋，成為微軟共同創辦人艾倫（Paul Allen）的鄰居。此外，他還在喬治亞州的雷諾茲莊園（Reynolds Plantation）購買2萬平方英尺的土地。2008年，他出資與好萊塢影星比爾莫瑞（Bill Murray）合作拍攝電影《請來參加我的告別式》（Get Low），頗受好評。

由於一直沒有結婚，岡拉克希望有自己的家庭，並想和家鄉重新連結。他曾經在鎮上聖十字學院替在阿富汗喪生的軍人禱告的活動中，宣布以該名士兵的名字設立永久獎學金。2011年10月，56歲的大衛．岡拉克因為心臟病發而離世，離世前他與埃爾克哈特鎮社區基金會的人碰面，很少人知道他到底捐了多少，就連他的母親瑪吉（Marge Swift）也向他的朋友表示，自己也不清楚兒子有多少財產。岡拉克在遺囑中表示要把他所有的財產，捐給埃爾克哈特鎮。2012年在美國慈善捐贈榜上，有兩個人不在福布斯全球億萬富豪榜內，大衛．岡拉克是其中一個。

埃爾克哈特鎮位於印第安納州北部靠近密歇根州的邊境處，靠著製造休旅車，當地多年來穩定的產生不少的藍領百萬富翁。但受到經濟衰退的嚴重影響，在2009年的失業率甚至達到15%，為當時全美國失業率最高的地區。

岡拉克留下包括存在瑞士銀行的1億1,300萬元、11棟房屋，以及勞斯萊斯、賓利和法拉利在內的15輛名車。目前這筆資產由社區基金會總裁皮特•麥科恩（Peter McCown）所管理。麥科恩四處走訪了解居民們的各種想法，而基金會也投票表決設立以岡拉克為名的獎學金，並討論設立圖書館或畫廊展示岡拉克的家具，介紹這位小鎮恩人的故事。

為了表彰岡拉克的貢獻，今年六月，當地一名企業家宣布計畫將一支職業棒球隊帶到鎮上，並將球隊命名為「埃爾克哈特鎮奇蹟」（ Elkhart County Miracle）。
