在選擇公職考試類組時，通常一般考生都會依循幾個部分來決定：
1.找與自身所唸的科系有相關的類組，看看有沒有曾經唸過的。
2.看個人興趣，雖說公務員工作普遍感覺就是死板，但不同類組的工作內容還是有不同，所以可以先看【銓敘部職務說明】來了解，再做決定。
3.看缺額，各種公職考試通常都會有幾個類組缺額是固定會開缺，而且名額比較多的(像是一般行政)，不過缺額多考的人也多啦。
4.請補習班的諮詢專員分析囉，你可以把你的想法跟他討論，不過要碰運氣，有的不是很中肯。

每年舉辦的公職考試有很多種，例行性會舉辦的有1.2月左右的初考、7月的高普考、12月地方特考..等等，其它特考類的也有6月的鐵路局特考、8月司法特考..等等，考試機會很多，建議你可以先了解這些考試的類別後，選擇比較適合你的考試去做準備。

目前公務人員報考的資格可分為：

高考(三等)、鐵路高員級→大學專科畢業全申論
普考(四等)、鐵路員級→高中職畢業選擇申論各半
初考(五等)、鐵路佐級→年滿18歲全選擇

在高普考、地方特考比較熱門的有以下幾個類組：
行政類：一般行政、一般民政、人事行政、戶政、地政、經建行政、勞工行政
商業類：財稅行政、會計、金融保險、商業行政
理工類：電子工程、電力工程、資訊處理
社會教育類：社會行政

其他還有：鐵路特考、司法特考可以準備。

在考試準備這方面有疑問的話，參加講座是很快的解答方式，透過專業講師的解說會更容易瞭解公職考試的方向，還有準備考試的技巧，還蠻有收獲的喔～
