一群想打棒球被拒於門外的怪咖小孩與一對棒球父女的勵志故事

棒球是美國人最喜歡的運動之一 但對Gannon一家人來說

棒球也是他們的”傳家之寶”

Terry Gannon Jr.(Maggie Lawson)曾經是入選全明星陣容的壘球運動員

但是現實生活使他必須離開賽場  他生了孩子 失去大學獎學金最近又離了婚

在手頭不寬裕的情況下 她只得帶著兒子Danny(Griffin Gluck)返回家鄉

住進父親Terry Sr.(James Caan)家中

Terry的父親 人稱大砲 她和父親關係並不好 父親也曾是一名運動員

他墨守成規固執已漸 手裡永遠拿著一瓶啤酒

Terry只打算暫居父親家 只有一找到工作 就會帶著兒子馬上離開

因為她的父親絕對是孫子的壞榜樣

有了前車之鑑 Terry不希望Danny和自己年輕時一樣 將青春與讀書的時間好在體育上

這種生活方式帶給他們一家人無止盡的痛苦

可是人算不如天算 Danny竟然對棒球產生了濃厚興趣 他生平第一次渴望成為職業小聯盟球員 

Terry很快發現Danny對棒球的興趣並非來自她父親的影響

而是為了要討一個女同學的歡心

Terry為了支持兒子 不太情願地答應兒子到一支球隊中試試身手

遺憾的是  Danny並沒有遺傳到母親和外祖父的運動天賦

就連基本的棒球知識都不知道 這下子他成了球場上的大笑話 連阿公也跟外人嘲笑他

曾發誓再也不進棒球場的Terry 見Danny失望的臉孔只好硬著頭皮

當起這些被棒球拒絕的孩子的棒球教練

他們將組織一支”獨立球隊” 來建立起孩子們的自信心
