小孩是不是親生的？這是通俗劇中用到爛的老梗。但是如果問對了問題，老梗上可以長出新葉，導演是枝裕和的「我的意外爸爸」就辦到了，怪不得拿到坎城的評審團大獎。

故事從一個經濟寬裕的核心家庭展開，這是個「爸爸事業成功、媽媽專心持家、小孩乖巧」的完美組合。問題點從發現六歲的小孩其實是當年在醫院裡抱錯了開始，以前這樣的情節安排，不容懷疑的是：小孩一定要找回親生父母，因為血緣關係重於一切，而且養父母的愛不可能比得上親生父母；一旦知道自己不是親生的，回到原生家庭此乃天經地義。 

但是枝裕和卻把這個球丟給了父母，已經培養了六年感情的父母來做「該不該把小孩換回來？」的決定。這個twist，讓戲劇衝突從過去偏向兒女角度的生育與養育之恩孰重，變成純父母觀點的感情與血統孰重？
