一顆外接硬碟只能備份一台mac還是兩台以上？

想請教各位前輩
我以前有一台A電腦(Mac MBA)
做完備份在甲外接硬碟
後來買了新機 B筆電跟C Mac Mini

後來我拿甲外接硬碟來備份B跟C
大概到一半就會顯示異常然後中斷
(忘了說，我甲外接硬碟這裡面已經有Ａ的備份，
可是又想做B備份時，都失敗了，試著備份C也失敗了)

所以是想要請教
一台外接硬碟只能對應一台mac系統嗎？
還是我哪裡弄錯了？
