在德國，不分老少愛吃巧克力和糖果的人很多。根據德國甜點產業協會的統計，德國人平均每人1年會吃上32公斤的巧克力和糖果。
由於吃太多甜食有違健康原則，近年來，愈來愈多德國人雖然喜歡巧克力等甜食，卻比較有節制。也因此，德國的巧克力和糖果銷售量逐年微幅下降。
德國甜點產業協會的資料顯示，去年這方面的銷售總值大約在124億7000萬歐元，較前年減少了0.3%。
