2013-14年球季已於30日開幕，不過31日才是重頭戲，從台北時間上午7點開始接連舉行14場比賽，當中最受台灣球迷矚目的，當然就是休士頓火箭與夏洛特山貓之戰。

火箭本季找來「魔獸」Dwight Howard，組成新「四星」陣容，熱身賽以6連勝收尾，例行賽首戰對手又是實力不強的山貓，團隊能有更多時間磨合。

「我非常興奮，我來這裡就是想要贏球。」Howard賽前說。

火箭主將「大鬍子」James Harden上季從奧克拉荷馬雷霆跳槽，很能體會Howard現在的心情。

「我和Dwight有一樣的感覺，我相信他來到一個最適合他邁向成功的地方。」Harden說。
