未來10年 太陽風暴來襲機率12%

太陽能科學家指出，未來10年太陽風暴襲擊地球且其力量足以嚴重損壞電力網的機率，可能高達12%。

2012年7月23日就曾出現太陽風暴，但太陽表面噴發的方向是對準太空而未正對地球，否則數十億公噸的高能粒子將以每秒2500公里高速衝撞地球磁場，可能使電力網損毀，因而使數億人無電可用數月甚至數年。

監督北美電力網的「北美電力可靠度公司」（The North American Electric Reliability Corporation, NERC）形容，嚴重的地磁風暴帶有「高強度、低頻率」的風險。

然而近來研究顯示，嚴重風暴襲擊地球的機率，可能高過NERC所認為。

科學家指出，未來10年地球遭受太陽風暴嚴重襲擊的機率為12%，雖不是太高，也絕不能稱為低頻率。
