這麼多年來,就只有你一個人提出此問題,可見你的觀察力及求知欲都很強,為你拍拍手!!!按Lake Matheson由於「冰磧湖」底長期的泥土及樹葉堆疊,產生腐植的沼氣及雜質,使湖底呈現暗黑色,透過湖水形成了一面鏡子,這也是該湖能輕易反射庫克山及塔斯曼山景致的原因;不過觀光客也常會發現沿步道邊上的小溪中的流水,水面總常出現黃色氣泡,讓人誤以為是汙染,其實就是前述的沼氣及雜質而非人為汙染.
