巴爾的摩金鶯球迷永遠記得Jeffrey Maier這個名字，紐約洋基球迷則是會想起1996年青澀模樣的Derek Jeter。

1996年美聯冠軍系列賽，金鶯跟洋基的第1場交手，當時8局下1出局金鶯4比3領先，輪到菜鳥Derek Jeter登場打擊。

Derek Jeter敲出右外野深遠飛球，金鶯右外野手Tony Tarasco一路退到牆邊，當他想要接球時，卻被看台上的12歲小球迷Jeffrey Maier給撈走，裁判判決這是1支全壘打，金鶯教練團再怎麼激動抗議也都更改不了。

這支爭議性全壘打追平戰局，最終洋基在延長賽獲勝，最後在美聯冠軍系列賽以4勝1敗擊敗金鶯，經過了18年，大家都還記得Jeffrey Maier跟Derek Jeter。

Jeffrey Maier在2012年時接受紐約每日新聞採訪，他說：「先不管跟我有沒有關係，當時那支全壘打，對洋基來說非常重要，也在大聯盟歷史上寫下一筆。針對此事，我並不打算出書或者在某些地方刊載文章，那就是獨一無二的一球。」
