最新的一則新聞紀錄片展示了牙買加金士頓中心區域無家可歸的青年同性戀者和變性人的生活，並指出這個群體的生活正受到威脅。該群體中許多人甚至被自己的家人所厭惡，被迫從棚屋轉移到骯髒的下水道生活，並隨時可能遭受人身攻擊。據悉，牙買加約80％的人口有反同性戀的情緒。

環球網據英國《每日郵報》報導，這些青年同性戀者稱自己為『下水道女王』，他們不願隱瞞自己的性取向，相對安全的下水道為他們提供了一個避難所。在蟑螂、蚊蟲滋生的環境裡，他們努力讓生活盡可能的體面：用消火栓噴出的水淋浴，在用踏板和地毯臨時製作的床上睡覺。每晚他們都要應對來自下水道並湧到床上的瓶子、骨頭和石子，除此之外，還有遭受攻擊的危險，包括強姦甚至謀殺，僅因為他們是同性戀。

同性戀在牙買加盛行，但牙買加卻被國際團體視為西半球最敵對同性戀者和變性人的國家。追溯到殖民時代，在牙買加曾有過『雞姦』法，即任何人若被發現有肛交行為都將面臨10年的監禁或苦役。目前，牙買加針對同志群體的暴力攻擊司空見慣，但卻幾乎沒有任何懲罰措施。
